This Lionfish was filmed in Roatan, Honduras. Lionfish are a very popular fish due to its' elaborate fins, and incredible pattern.

Lionfish are a symbol of power and beauty. With its' venomous fins, the Lionfish has very few predators. When approached underwater, the Lionfish will expand its fins out to show off the venomous fins...tilt its' head down...and turn its head away from you. This is the defensive stance the Lionfish takes when approached by a threat. The beautiful markings are a clear sign to predators to stay away.

Unfortunately a few Lionfish were released in in the Caribbean, have reproduced at an uncontrollable rate, and have disrupted the ecosystems throughout the coast of Florida and throughout the Caribbean.  Beautiful and invasive, the Lionfish is undoubtedly one of the most iconic tropical fish on our planet.
